Woolston, pastor of East Baptist Church in Philadelphia and best remembered today as the author of "Jesus Loves the Little Children," was a pioneer of visual gospel communication. A personal student of the great illusionist Howard Thurston, he took the principles of stage magic and mechanical effects and turned them into what he called "preachers of morals and religion."
